June 12, 2009

Dynamic performance by Dwayne Bravo led West Indies to comfortably beat India by a margin of 7 wickets. Bravo was judged ‘Man of the Match’ for his superb overall performance where he not only scored 66 runs but picked four wickets too.

Set to chase 154, West Indies received a severe jolt when Andre Fletcher and Chris Gayle returned to the pavilion with only 42 on board within the 8th over. But Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Bravo changed the complexion of the game. A blitzkrieg by Dwayne Bravo (66 runs from 36 balls, a Batting Momentum or BM of 121) overpowered India’s bowling attack. After Simmons left, Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 41 runs in 16 balls that left Indian skipper MS Dhoni stunned. Indian spinners were completely off-colour as they were given the severe taste of the willow by the Windies’ batsmen in the match.
Earlier, West Indies pace bowlers Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor improved upon their bowling by few notches to unsettle the formidable Indian top order. Bravo then rolled over his arms to polish off the middle order in a clinical fashion to end with a figure of 4 for 38 (Bowling Efficiency or BE 84). He was ably supported by Fidel Edwards who picked 3 wickets for 24 (BE 100). At the end of the powerplay India were struggling at 30 for 3. Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan then rebuild the innings for India by adding 64 runs in just 33 balls. Yuvraj’s (67 runs from 43 balls, BM 104) knock helped India reach a respectable total.

It was also a match in which the Windies outwitted India in all departments of the game. West Indies were better fielders in the match supporting their bowling efforts.
