Aaron Redmond’s superb batting and brilliant fielding by New Zealand to thrash Ireland by a significant margin of 83 runs in the first of the Super 8 round of matches. Redmond was judged ‘Man of the Match’ for outplaying Ireland.

Set to chase an imposing total of 200, Ireland was done in by meticulous bowling and brilliant fielding by New Zealand.  Nathan McCullum became the leading wicket taker for New Zealand by picking 3 wickets for 15 runs to earn a Bowling Efficiency (BE) of 120 from the match. By the 11th over Ireland had lost half of its batsmen for a meagre 77 runs. New Zealand was electric on the field triggering collapse in the batting order of Ireland by effecting four run outs. Andre Botha (28 runs off 17 balls – Batting Momentum of 46) tried in vain as the Kiwis wrapped up the match bowling out Ireland by the 17th over.

Earlier, the Kiwis started on a high note with Aaron Redmond blasting seven 4s in the first ten balls. Redmond’s (63 runs from 30 balls, a Batting Momentum or BM of 132) knock accelerated the Kiwis’ scoring rate. Later, a partnership of 61 runs in 37 balls by Scott Styris and Martin Guptill blunted the bowling attack of Ireland. Styris hammered 42 runs off 25 balls (BM 70), while Gutptill scored 45 runs from 32 balls (BM 63) provided impetus to the Batting Momentum (BM) of New Zealand.
