Proteas’ spinners turn the heat on IndiansIndia vs South Africa South African spinners outperformed their Indian counterpart by picking up more wickets to register a 12-run victory over India. With this win the Proteas now top the group. They will meet Pakistan in the semi-finals. In a seemingly batting friendly track, the spinners stole the show. But it was the South African spinners performed better than the Indians to win the match. Earlier, Indian skipper MS Dhoni deployed as many as 5 spinners who bowled 14 overs between them. They were able to choke the Proteas batting conceding only 75 runs compared to 55 runs given away by the pacers in 6 overs. South Africa, who scored a paltry 130 runs on the Trent Bridge Oval pitch which averages around 150 in the first innings, were, however, able to shunt the Indian chase as the Proteas’ spinning trio of Johan Botha, Roelof van der Merwe, Jean Paul Duminy bowled 9 overs for only 30 runs and picked up five valuable wickets. The wicket taking ability of the spinners turned the match in South Africa’s favour. The seemingly formidable Indian batting line-up failed to pick up the pace to finish at 118 losing 8 wickets. Indian batsmen lost the plot at the loss of the first wicket as they plunged from 48 for one to 69 for 5. India was severely handicapped by the poor form of Suresh Raina who once again failed with the bat. Earlier, AB de Villiers made 63 runs off 51 balls (Batting Momentum of 78) to take the South African total to some sort of respectability. With this loss, India, who is the defending Champion, lost all their matches in the Super 8s this year. |
