A near perfect batting and bowling performance enabled South Africa to roll past West Indies by a margin of 20 runs to maintain their winning streak and remain strong favourites in this Championship.

Set to chase an imposing total of 184, West Indies found themselves on a sticky wicket as South African bowler Wayne Parnell went on the rampage. He removed the two most prolific scorers for West Indies in this Championship, Chris Gayle and Andre Fletcher in quick succession to reduce them to 13 for 2. Parnel returned with figures of 4 wickets for 13 runs which earned him a Bowling Efficiency of 246 and was judged the “Man of the Match”. Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Bravo tried to repeat their performance against India by building a partnership of 57 runs in 35 balls. Simmons (77 runs from 50 balls, a Batting Momentum of 119) blitzkrieg accelerated the scoring rate for West Indies. Roelof van der Merwe delivered results for South Africa by bowling intelligently to fox both Bravo and Simmons into playing mistimed shots.

Earlier, the Proteas’ top order excelled with the bat to put the team on solid grounds. Jacques Kallis (45 runs from 31 balls, a BM of 65) and Herschelle Gibbs (55 runs from 35 balls, a BM of 86) accelerated the Batting Momentum of South Africa to take them to a total of 183. The Proteas added 45 runs during the death overs to maintain their good form with the bat.
