Arindam Kayal's Question
Q. Now India is doing well in tests. But in shorter formats (T20 and One-days), specially in bigger tournaments, India is not doing well. What are the reasons behind it?

Madhusudan Rao´s Answer
A. The test team has matured over years and that is the reason why they are doing well. Just look at the team - there is no reason to worry for any captain - all legends in their own right. Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Sachin, Laxman, Yuvraj and MS Dhoni - only Yuvraj is the weak link, I feel. Compare that to the shorter formats, the batting strength weakens a bit - Raina, Kohli are just starting to show signs of being good - we need to wait and watch. The absence of a bowling all-rounder is felt also.
Dharun Thiyagaraja´s Answer
A. It’s a psychological block that prevents India to perform in bigger ODI tournaments. Gone are the days when we have to depend on a single player to take us to glory. Now they have enough star players who can single handedly take the game away from the opposition. But such individual performance rarely creates victory in cricket or any team sport for that matter. The role of the captain and the coach becomes vital here. They must instill the confidence and motivate the team to stay focused and execute the job in hand with perfection. Expectations from the Indian fans are always on the higher side and it puts immense pressure on the team which is understandable. But somehow the team must work and develop on big match temperament and the entire team should rise to the occasion. It’s been a while for the team to win such big tournaments and all eyes on them in coming bigger tournaments. Anyways good luck to them.

A. Arindam I tend to agree with you to some extent as far india not doing well in big tournaments .They do all the good work and more oten than not do well to reach the finals and lose. The only reason i can think of is Indian players tend to panic and go hard in the final rather than taking it as just another match.I think most often the ocassion gets better of india .Coming to t20 i think its a format where any team can win and there are no clear favourites .Say for australia isnt a successful team in t20.As far as i am concerned its just an mental block that india do well to reach finals and then lose and it wont be late when it get over it.
