A. You may boast of possessing all the latest arms and ammunition in the world, but if they turn can’t be used when the enemy comes calling, they are very much useless. It’s pretty much the same thing what happened to Delhi Daredevils. In spite of having doubly dangerous players like Sehwag, Warner, Dilshan and Gambhir, they couldn’t chase a moderate score of 145 in their own backyard. The worst part was that they were thrown out of the IPL unceremoniously. Delhi had their batting woes in the last couple of matches as their ‘big guns’ played irresponsible shots and got out. Dilshan had come out of injury and Warner wasn’t in the greatest of nicks, except for a couple of good knocks. Sehwag was the one who had to shoulder greater responsibility as he is the most senior batsman in the line-up. He just continued with his ‘devil-may-care’ attitude shots and got out cheaply. Delhi didn’t need an explosive knock from him to drive them home. They just needed sensible batting. Sehwag, as he has done it in the past, doesn’t put a price tag on his wicket and just gifts it away. It had cost him his place in the Indian team on more than one occasion. It seems he is yet to learn from his past mistakes. There’s no doubt that we would like to see Sehwag exploding every time he bats, but, when the situation demands, he has to put his head down and play sensibly. The T-20 World Cup is going to be a real tester for him and let’s hope that he comes good in the Caribbean.
