laxman vernekar's Question
Q. The Orange Cap is awarded to player who scores maximum runs. But T20 is all about momentum, strike rates, fours and sixes etc. So will it not be prudent to include the factors such as strike rates, number of fours and sixes and value of the innings to the team to take into consideration while awarding The Orange CAP?

lok´s Answer
A. Ya, I agree with the fact that T20 is all about strike rate, fours, sixes etc, but there should be consistent performance, because at last team wants good score on the board,so that they can defend the score. It doesn't matter how much your strike rate, fours and sixes.

A. Dear sir, i am aggrey with you that Orange Cap is to be given on the basis of maximum sixes, momentum, fours, and specialey on the importance of innings that he played to lead his team.in my openion the ORANGE CAP is to be given to player on these basis. In my openion if a player get most runs in t-20 but has no speed of making of runs and not hit sixes and fours then he is not able to get this cap on others way if a player not hit more runs but has lot of sixes and fours and play imporatance role in wining of his team is the right option for getting Orange Cap.

A. The orange cap is awarded for the player scored more runs. This indicates the overall batting performance in the field. More runs shows the capability of Quality batting, otherwise no runs from bat. In that way the batsman who scored more runs , awarded for the same.
ajith.c.jaco´s Answer
A. The orange cap means consistency of t20 cricket.Every batsman can hit six and fours .
divya´s Answer
A. t20 is not scoring maximum runs but it's all about strike rates and hitting fours and sixes. A player can score runs by batting full 20 overs but it's important to score quick runs in minimum ball faced without wasting any time and this is t20 , it's real meaning. this are the most important aspect of t20 and should be taken into consideration while awarding orange cap winner.

Visakh S Kuma´s Answer
A. I think orange cap is a great concept brought into the game but I do believe that it should be awarded to a batsman who has made more match winning contributions than scoring more runs without purpose. So, taking that into consideration Sachin deserves the orange cap in IPL 2010.
´s Answer
A. If the factors as mentioned in the question are to be taken into account to award the Orange Cap, then a formula like the "Duckworth/Lewis method" will have to be created. The method now used of awarding the Orange Cap to the player who's scored the highest number of runs until a certain point in the tournament is quite all right. As it is seen that it is such a player who usually contributes to his teams' win even while being attractive in terms of fours and sixes hit.

jimmy jaco´s Answer
A. i don't agreee with you because orange cap is given to a player who scored more runs . if he scores highest then automatically his average ,no of fours ,and sixes is also increases because it is t20 not test . also a person scores in a good rate is only allowed to play by team management so if one scores most ,automatically his fours , sixes ,average also increases. since the effort of a batsman helps him to score most runs and also make his team to the top ,so he deserves orange cap .for example sachin most of the times runs scored by him helped to become a top team from low teams in last 2 ipls. also strike rates are not the matter because a batsman scoring 12 from 2 have more strike rate than a batsman scorind 100 from 60 .so i think orange cap is always deserves for top scorer
kamalesh´s Answer
A. Hi, Laxman IF you talk about strike rate, then look if 11th batsman hits 1 six in 1 ball then his strike rate maximum and in same team if someone hits century in 100 balls then his strike rate is less than the 11th batsman. AS T20 is the game in which you gets only 120 balls for whole team and simple knock between 20-30 runs can win the match. So finally T20 is the game of showers of runs inrespective of Sixes, Fours, Strike rates.
hivaseesh´s Answer
A. i don't agree with u as the orange cap is given to the person who has done a consistant performance with the bat and has made his team to qualify for the next round what matters is the runs scored as the strike rate does not show the performance in the particular match as a person getting out in the first ball and in the next match he is hitting a six in the only ball he get to play tan his strike rate in the two matches will b 300 but what is the use if u cannot lead your team to a win or did not make runs for your team.

A. CRICKET IS A VERY SIMPLE GAME BETWEEN BAT AND BOWL. BUT TODAY THINGS HAVE BEEN TILTED TOWARDS BATSMANS. T20 IS ALL SCORING RUNS AT SUPERFAST RATE, HENCE RUNS ACCUMALETED VIA SIXES AND FOURS ARE ONLY ONE OF THE MODE NOT THE ULTIMATE THINGS WHICH DETERMINES WHO IS THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS. IF AT ALL THE STRIKE RATE IS GOING TO BE THE PARAMETER FOR SUCH EVALUATION, IT WILL NOT GIVE THE FULL PICTURE.

A. The orange cap is awarded for the player scored more runs. This indicates the overall batting performance in the field.......but one thing should forgot that only one player efforts can't work always...team efforts required
Karthik´s Answer
A. The concept of awarding the Orange cap is to honour the player with the most runs in the tournament. Though T20 is a fast game witha lot of fours and sixes hit during the course of the game, it is cricket at the end of the day. Though the game has seen some wonderful hitters, we always remember the Bradmans, Chappels and Gavaskars of the game because of their consistency in scoring runs against any opposition. Tendulkar, in this IPL(3), is a classic example of how to approach the game of cricket, let alone T20. The approaches of Tendulkar, Kallis and Ganguly give the youngsters an important lesson. A lesson which teaches that T20 cricket is not always about slogging. If you can hold on to your wicket and anchor the innings by scoring at a reasonable rate, the team benefits by which I say that the momentum is automatically gained. So let the Orange Cap remain on the head of the artist than that of the slogger !
hishek Pathak´s Answer
A. THe orange cap is awarded for scoring the highest run in the whole tournament irrespective of the number of four and sixes or the strike rate. The person who has the pontential to hit max number of runs get this cap and if he hits maximum no. of runs surely he would have hitted blasty sixes and fours.........All the Players gets the equal chances and the person who has the capability to prove, is the orange cap winner.
dahiya´s Answer
A. at the end of the day in a cricket match its the runs that matters not the sixes and fours.i agree that you need quick bounderies in a limited overs game but still the number of runs scored by you for your team matters.so the reward of the orange cap is rightly given to the leading run scorer..

A. why orange cap why not any other cap like blue symbolises indian team
aveen gautam´s Answer
A. no because even a bowler sometime plays well with goog strike rate so thats a back point comes for a batsman like harbajjan sing played a game of 49 runs in just 25 balls approximately so thats why we should not have this also bychance thats person got orange cap who is not fit to have it , then a straight backpoints comes is that of demotivation in batsmans mind

A. Mr.Yuvi win Orange cap in this world cup.
yasar d´s Answer
A. that is a better question.i think strike rate, fours and sixes are also should come under consideration while awarding the orange cap, because in this short form of cricket ,eventhough the runs r important but runs with better strike rate only will hepl the team. in last ipl Kallis from Banglore royal challengers scored lot of fifties and got good total.but the fact is his strike rate was too low in the sense of 20-20.most of the banglore fans felt bad while his batting eventhough he scored well.so no doubt atlest strike rate should consider for orange cap award
Narender Singh Neg´s Answer
A. like it because then opportunity is for all players in a team to get the orange cap. Otherwise this opportunity is only limited to the openers and the next batsman. When playing this game every player whether middle order or bowler can get this opportunity to get the orange cap.....

aurabh suma´s Answer
A. Hi Laxman the factors for which u want to give award is given as MoM and MoS...orange cap is just additional award...u cannot have two award for the same thing....and also orange cap is not given for scoring highest score as whole its a daily award...one with highest cumulative score on that day wears the cap and the one wearing it on the final day of the league matches is the winner of it so naturally u need to perform throughout the series not just once...for hitting sixes and fours we hv different award...y to club all in one when there can be many performer in the team
M V M LN Murthy´s Answer
A. The Orange Cap will be awarded to the batsman with the most cumulative runs to his name on each day of the season, and will be worn by that batsman in the field. So, there must be three more color caps for the most valuable, greatest striker and highest boundaries..so, Orange is for the player who scores maximum runs. Apart from orange and purple, IPL management need to think on three more color caps.
l´s Answer
A. best player in the tournament and highest runner in the tournament
Sujith Na´s Answer
A. Instead of givin the orange cap to highest run getter it would be better to give the cap to the player who scores for the team and sees the team through the crucial situation. Therefore strike rates should be considered not the fours and sixes because afterall if u can rotate the strike and get the runs at a fair amt of pace then why not.
Naveen Kumar Singhal´s Answer
A. The purpose of the Cap is to give honour to those player who have most runs. In this game it is not important that who have hitted most boundaries but it is much important that who has scored more with good strike rate. Therefore it is my suggestion that the Strike rate is also to be consider before honouring the Orange Cap.

A. it is more important who is winning than where is award has distributed. No such player is more important who can't finish his job at winning moment. if a player is scoring more run but team is loosing the match how can award more important so i think orange cap not more better than winning team.
martya Sengupta´s Answer
A. Average of 30-40 and strikerate about 140 should come under consideration while giving the award not only the maximum runs.
aj shrishrimal´s Answer
A. orange cap also motivates the player to perfom better.only highest run getterin a tournament gets orange cap.which is fair enough
Benley George´s Answer
A. The orange cap is for the maximum run scorer. Factors like strike rate, no of sixes and fours makes things too complicated for evaluation of the batsmans performance. things always have to be kept simple as possible.Too many cooks spoil the broth.A batsman hits fours and sixes on the way to become the highest run scorer so all the other factors are included in it already.
avi verma´s Answer
A. strike rate and other things doesn't matter but the scores coming from bat matter very much....so orange cap should be given to the person who make more score........

A. The orange cap signifies the consistency of the player in the tournament. If he is scoring runs that means he is helping his to achieve big totals or is providing stability to the team.T20 is about momentum but to build the momentum yo need a player who is consistent and whom the team can trust to stabilize the inning and at the same time if required can accelerate the innings.

Pawan Rajvansh´s Answer
A. No. I disagree with ur statement. Because it is not possible to calculate all the factors. The Orange Cap is awarded to player who scores maximum runs is a good choice about prudential of any team and the cricket fans as well. its simply because, if srisanth plays 5 innigs and he scores 10 runs in each of his innings and come back in to the pvaleion not-out this means his avg will go to 50. but the sachin (The Lord of the Cricket) plays 5 innings and scores 50-40-45-52-39 respectively. it simply means that sachin scored 226 runs with the total avg. 45.2 & played a far more than srisanth if we talk about T20, so how can you accept srisanth as a orange cap wearer.
hish Agrawal´s Answer
A. I don't think so. Orange Cap should be awarded to player who score maximum runs as I feel a player is more important who has manufactured his innings and lead team to win rather than whom has just hitted sixes and fours and finished the game. However it can be considered how many games a player has lead him team to win just like Pollard did for Mumbai Indians
mih´s Answer
A. absolutely correct.....strike rates, momentum should be consider....after all if you don't play when it is strongly required, when your team needs you......more runs scored in earlier matches are of no use....your score should lead your team towards final matches.......but one thing should forgot that only one player efforts can't work always...team efforts required
umanta biswa´s Answer
A. I agree with you mate that strike rate should also be taken into consideration while awarding the orange cap. But I am not in favour of considering the number of 4s and 6s in awarding this coveted cap. There is no harm in rewarding a batsman who scores more and maintains a higher strike rate than a batsman who has scored less even if by hitting more 4s and 6s. Because at the end it is the number of runs that a batsman has contributed by maintaining a healthy strike rate that matters most to the team rather than number of 4s and 6s hit by a batsman. And there is already an award for maximum number of sixes. So I think it is worthwhile to give the orange cap to the batsman keeping in mind his runs and at the pace he has scored those runs. Obviously there should be some definite criteria of awarding points to a batsman depending upon the runs he scores and his strike rate. Only strike rate should not be taken into consideration while awarding points. It is always justifiable to award more points to a batsman who has scored 600 runs at a strike rate of 150 than to a batsman who has scored only 200 runs with a strike rate of 200.
mit Chandel´s Answer
A. i think ,the T20 is very exciting game.it is not easier to make run in T20.because if you don't get runs in a ball ,the batsman feel the more pressure because he think to make more runs.all cricket is a game of strategy also.
Harsha´s Answer
A. agree totally. runs shouldn't be the only criterion just as wickets cannot only be the only solution. i think the bowling and batting indices on castrolcricket.com are probably the best way to go about it.
h verma´s Answer
A. if the player has scored maximum number of runs,it is understood that it wont be without boundaries and sixes, and it is natural that he has helped his team post good totals and helped its cause to great effect while chasing.sachin has maximum boundaries and has set up matches for the team.on the other side yousuf pathan has maximum sixes but his sixes didn't land his team anywhere in tournament.so its not quantity that maters, its quality.

A. The purpose of the cap is to highlight the person who is being with you playing the same game but have showed his performance leading you all and why you cant try to get it from him, which is similar to that of providing the rank holder ID in schools, its a spirit.
