Deccan Chargers travel to Chennai in search of first win

The Deccan Chargers will have a chance to cancel out their defeat in the opener when they face Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

Chennai Super Kings boast of one of the strongest batting line-ups in the tournament, having a number of local and International players with big-hitting capabilities. Matthew Hayden, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni form the backbone of their side. The three have played a crucial role in the team’s success over the past seasons and a lot will be expected from them this year as well. Parthiv Patel’s performances have been overshadowed by his opening partner. Murali Vijay and Subramaniam Badrinath will hope to shoulder some of that responsibility. Justin Kemp and Albie Morkel are the two bowling all rounders. Their pace attack will be shared by Thilan Thushara, Sudeep Tyagi, Manpreet Goni and Makhaya Ntini. Muttiah Muralidaran will handle spin duties along with Shadab Jakati.

Deccan Chargers would be disappointed with their performance in the first match. Their bowlers did well to put them in a strong position early but failed to keep things tight towards the business end of the innings. Despite the late assault from Kolkata Knight Riders, they were not chasing a very high total and were expected to win. They got off to a flier but their innings broke down, thanks to a flurry of rash strokes from their strike batsmen that allowed the Knight Riders to make a comeback. They will need a much improved performance from their batting line-up if they are to have any chance of getting a win at Chennai.
