New Zealand look to make it all square

The Kiwis will have to recover quickly from the defeat on Friday and set their sights on a strong comeback in the second T20 at Christchurch.

New Zealand’s batting order failed to handle the fierce bowling from Australia’s pace attack, which has been on a roll in the recent past. Shaun Tait and Dirk Nannes have consistently managed to take wickets in the Quick start overs, pushing oppositions onto the back-foot early. Mitchell Johnson seems to have found form again and is doing extremely well in his supporting role. Brendon McCullum, Peter Ingram and Ross Taylor are the key men for the black caps. They will have to put in a much better performance if New Zealand are to get anything out of this two match series. James Franklin was their only batsman to get amongst the runs and showed that a little application at the start of the innings could help them go a long way. Daniel Vettori is an inspirational leader and his spell was the standout performance of the match.

Australia will be pleased with their first outing away from home after the long season, where they remained unbeaten. Their pace attack is developing into a lethal force with Tait, Nannes and Johnson generating some serious pace to trouble even some quality batsmen. Steven Smith looks like a promising bowler even though he still has a long way to go. David Warner and Watson are developing into a fine opening pair in the short format and David Hussey showed exactly what he is capable of in the first game at Wellington. The Aussies will be looking to extend their unbeaten run, which will help build their confidence ahead of the World Cup.
