Morgan leads England to series win

Eoin Morgan scored his maiden ODI century for England as he single-handedly took his side to victory in the second ODI. That gives the visitors an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the 3-ODI series.

Bangladesh came out to bat after losing the toss and determined to stay in the series, they got off to a strong start. The hosts managed 52 runs in the Quick start period with Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes firing on all cylinders. England struck back in the Bowling Power Play, getting the wickets of Iqbal and Aftab Ahmed in consecutive overs. That brought Mushfiqur Rahim to the middle and he settled in pretty quickly. Kayes and Rahim batted sensibly through the middle of the innings, adding 90 runs for the third wicket. The lost Kayes at a crucial stage and Shakib Al Hasan went soon after. Rahim made sure he was there as they entered the Extreme Performance overs and got some valuable runs before his innings came to an end. The lower order fired for Bangladesh as they added 45 runs in the Batting Power Play, pushing their total to a respectable 260 on a slow wicket, with a number of spinners in their side.

England started with an early setback, losing Craig Kieswetter in the very first over. Alastair Cook helped them recover well as they reached 52 for two at the end of the first Power Play with Kevin Pietersen, failing to impress. Paul Collingwood managed a score of only 7 before he was picked up by Abdur Razzak and England were in a spot of bother. Eoin Morgan knew that he had time on his hands and supported his skipper well, as the pair added 40 runs for the fourth wicket. The run rate was starting to mount after Cook was out and Bangladesh had the visitors under pressure. But Matt Prior reacted well in the situation did well to partner Morgan as the duo added 90 runs for the fifth wicket and brought England right back into the contest. Prior’s wicket fell at a bad time for England, as they entered the Extreme Performance overs. Bangladesh capitalised on the opportunity, picking up three lower order wickets in consecutive overs and the equation looked to be swinging back in their favour. But Morgan did well to keep majority of the strike and took England home, with an over to spare.

Eoin Morgan was adjudged Man of the Match for his unbeaten 110 off just 104 balls with a Batting Momentum of 160.
