Match Review

Rain ruins England’s chances of becoming number 1

Everyone waited and waited and waited for eternity for the rain to ease out but unfortunately it never relented and the umpires were forced to abandon the third ODI between England and Australia at Birmingham.

If England would have won this series 5-0, they would have jumped up to the number one spot in the rankings, dethroning Australia. Given the way they dominated the Kangaroos in the first two ODIs, the odds were in their favour that they can inflict a whitewash but unluckily the rain spoiled their hopes.

The way Australia have performed on this tour so far, they will be relieved that a clean sweep is now out of the window and they now will look to bounce back and level the ODI series.

Now, these two sides will gear up for the fourth ODI at Chester-Le-Street on Saturday, 7th July 2012.
