Australia too strong for Kiwis
Australia’s bowling proved too much for New Zealand to handle as the visitors cruised to a comfortable victory in the first T20 at Wellington.

Australia continued to show top form as they beat New Zealand by six wickets in the first of two T20Is at Wellington today.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first, on a good looking wicket. The plan was right but they failed to implement it. Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson struck early, getting the wickets of Brendon McCullum and Peter Ingram, inside the Quick start period. The hosts suffered another blow, with Ross Taylor going cheaply and only 49 runs on the board, halfway through the innings. James Franklin fought a lone battle, scoring 43 runs off just 42 balls as the other Kiwi batsmen struggled to cope with the bowling. His innings brought some respectability to the total as they finished with a paltry 118 at the end of 20 overs. Australia’s bowlers maintained an efficiency of 336 against the New Zealand batting. Mitchell Johnson was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of three for 19.
New Zealand needed early wickets to get back in the contest but David Warner looked to be in a hurry. New Zealand did manage to get three Aussie wickets in the Power Play overs but they failed to control the flow of runs. Michael Clarke and David Hussey could afford to take time and settle in before going for their shots. The duo did extremely well, adding 67 runs for the fourth wicket and getting the visitors within touching distance of a win. Hussey was a responsible for a chunk of the scoring, with his 46 runs off 36 balls. They eventually finished the game in 16 overs.
Mitchell Johnson was adjudged Man of the Match for his magical spell. He maintained a Bowling Efficiency of 189 through his spell.
