New Zealand wins to end the series on a high

With the Test Series coming up the Kiwis get a morale boost as the defeat the mighty Australians in the final match of the ODI Series at Wellington.

The Kiwis were but in to bat after Ponting won the toss and chose to field. The Kiwis needed the top order to fire and they got off to a decent start scoring 21 runs from the first 4 overs, however as seen many times in this series they lost three quick wickets in the next four overs and were once again on the back-foot. Ross Taylor and Scott Styris offered some sort of resilience and had a huge task on their hands. They added 50 runs for the fourth wicket before Taylor was caught by Bollinger off Watson. Styris battled it out in the middle and played a gritty knock of 55 in 66 deliveries. With some useful contributions from Vettori, Hopkins and Tuffey down the order and their Power Play 2 Performance combined with their Extreme Batting Performance helped the Black Caps set a decent target of 242 for the Aussies. The key to their innings was that they managed to bat through the 50 overs.

Australia looked good at the start, with Watson and Haddin scoring 27 runs in the first six overs. Then Bond struck twice in the next over, first claiming the leading run scorer of the tournament, Haddin and then the Aussie captain. Cameron White and Voges could not do much and with runs difficult to come by, it was only a matter of time before they crumbled under pressure and were both dismissed off a Tim Southee delivery. Next man to go was Watson after scoring a formidable 53 off 79 balls. Hussey and Hopes led a fight back, but Southee, Bond and Vettori had other ideas, as the Kiwi trio claimed the last five wickets amongst them and New Zealand won the match by 51 runs in the 47th over.
