Champions’ Leagues 2009 & 2010: A summary
As a curtain-raiser to the Champions’ League 2011, Y. Anantha Narayanan has given in this article the analytical summary of the two previous Champions’ Leagues held during 2009 and 2010.
First, the Batting performance table for CL09. Duminy’s explosive innings of 99 against RCB at Bangalore leads the way. Relatively unknown Puttick’s century and Pollard’s 3-runs-a-ball 54 follow next.
The Bowling table is led by a trio of lesser known bowlers, McDonald, McKay and Rampaul.
Brett Lee is the surprise leader in the Player performance table with his score of 48 and 2 for 10 against Trinidad. Kallis follows next and Thomas is placed third.
Note the conspicuous absence of players from Indian teams during CL09.
Raina dominated CL10 and this is confirmed by his occupying the two top places. Ferguson is a surprise third-placed batsman. The unfancied Jamie How has two places in the top-10. Readers can note how far ahead Raina’s tour-de-force knock of 94 is over his own second placed performance.
The top three positions in the Bowling performance table are again occupied by three relatively unknown bowlers.
Kreusch??? Noema-Barnett??? Only Bravo is a known figure. However, Lee’s CL09 performance is way ahead of these efforts.
Overall, many unknown players occupy the top-10 positions in the six tables.
