The heat is on!

Harsha Bhogle

Harsha Bhogle reviews the IPL action so far and predicts Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai as possible semi-finalists.

I think Anil Kumble is right when he says that the Kotla is not a good track for T20. It wasn’t in the Champions League in October last year and while it started off well here, you can see the impact of the newly laid surface. It was still a good job done to bring it to where it is but teams will already be planning for the slowness and hoping to win the toss.

The Royal Challengers need to be just a bit careful here. If they lose another game, soon they will slip back into that middle bunch. I believe they will eventually go through, especially since they have two home games coming up, but a win in the next game will soothe some nerves.

The IPL had reached a stage where most teams were probably budgeting two points against Kings XI, always a dangerous thing to do against a side that was down in the dumps but not short of quality players. And Kolkata Knight Riders must be kicking themselves for that result. But it also shows how poor their bowling is. No Ishant, no Dinda, no Shukla means there is a big hole and I don’t see how that is going to be filled very soon. It also tells you that you can have the greatest in your support staff but if the bowlers cannot learn, it is not much good.

The three teams that have slipped a bit, Deccan Chargers, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals need a quick little two game-winning burst to hold a resurgent Chennai Super Kings at bay. I believe the arrival of Bollinger, though not a magic wand, will re-invigorate a team that has the class to go the distance. Murali Vijay has been a revelation, he will take pressure off Hayden and leave him free to go after the bowling and that can only be good. The return of Dhoni has been almost therapeutic for them as much as his absence was a dampener.

There are still some key games to be played but my instinct tells me it could well be Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in the semis.

CSK shud def make it to top4 unless they play some really bad cricket. RR can surprise a bit but I really dont think they will. I have the same pick as you at the moment.

Rajastan Royals has chance better than Deccan chargers to push chennai from the top 4. I Believe the line up would be Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Royal challengers Bangalore and Chennai SuperKings/ Rajastan Royals.
Luck with captain cool, chennai will get a berth..

If today CSK beat MI with good score than there is nobody to stop them to climb the Table. I believe that Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Royal challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings will make the Semis and MI & RCB will be in Finals.

I love to hear Harsha every time he speaks.. bht not this time as he has not mentioned RR in the list and i feel that Warne has still got charge in him which brings the never loose Attitue in the team.Which according p me seperates RR from others as we can see that Royals has done a supreb task by not allowing the opponents to win a match after scoring 150 plus.Though some times they are predictible but still they have the capability of winning.

I agree with Harsha but Banglore seems to be little sceptical. May be Rajastan can spring a surprise. Other wise all izz well

I have a point to make to Harsha…
I have a strong feeling that going by RCB’s performance we cant help but get a feeling that ,this is a team with lot of potential and it is actually going unused.I agree that Jack kallis has been among the runs…but just look at the number of balls he consumes to socre those runs. scoring 50 out of 48 balls ,28 out of 24 balls is actually hampering the teams prospects in the first 6 overs. In fact RCB have never got off to a flyer in the first 6 overs unlike other teams. One gets a feeling that Jack Kallis is just playing for the orange cap and not for the team..(many might disagree…but the bigger picture is this)...Hence if Banglore really have rethink thier stratergy and use thier foriegn thick tank more wisely.
My opinion is Jack Kallis should be RESTED and Dale styen should play as he is a strike bowler.
RCB have Uthappa who looks in fine nick and if he sent up the order in the first six overs to open Banglore will get a rocking start. Then we have players like peterson.kohli, white, and not to forget Dravid.who can always play the waiting game if required..Hence I think the time has come for the RCB bosses to rethink thier strtergy and stop thinking that Kallis is winning them games which is not the case in reality.
Harsha your thoughts….

Despite a good Score RCB lost to DC today in their own den by seven wickets, thanks to the two S’s Suman & Simon! So, RCB has to girdle up?!
