Will the Sehwag-Gambhir partnership work this season?

The Indian opening duo of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir- considered as the most destructive in top-level cricket today- is set to sizzle yet again for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League.

The pair led Delhi’s charge in the first season with some blistering performances at the top of the order, helping their team to victory on several occasions. They have a great understanding despite a complete contrast when it comes to their combined approach towards the opposition.

The Delhi duo scored a total of 940 runs between themselves in the first season of the IPL. Gautam Gambhir was the higher run-getter with 534 against Sehwag’s 406 but Sehwag had a strike rate of 184.5 against Gambhir’s 140.89. Gambhir provided the anchor role as Sehwag went after the bowling right from the onset.

But their success was limited to the first season as they seemed to struggle when the tournament moved out to South Africa. Last year they managed only 484 runs between them, barely half of their total from the previous season. They have continued to do well for India since then and find themselves amongst the runs once again.
